Barbie is turning 50 in a few days (according to Wikipedia on March 9, 2009). She’s been a trend setter and fashion plate her whole life, and just now decided to get a tattoo! Is it some sort of mid-life crisis? Has the mainstream officially embraced tattooing or have (often forbidden) tattoos jumped the shark? Whichever or whatever the case may be – Mattel’s Totally Stylin’ Tattoos Barbie appears to be selling well. While Tattoo Barbie does not come with tattoos already applied, she comes with a collection of the typical flower, heart, and butterfly stickers for her happy owner to apply as they see fit. Bonus – there are temporary tattoos that the owner can stick on their own bodies, too.
In other Barbie-related news, I read a Mattel Press Release that a new 2009 Bathing Suit Barbie will be released and unveil a “new face” for the doll. This new faced doll is scheduled to be revealed at midnight on Monday, March 9th, and will have a throwback price, sold at Barbie’s original 1959 price of $3 (one week only – March 9-14 at participating retailers).

So, it seems like this time of year brings some particular thing to fixate on. One year it was Grand Theft Auto III…last Christmas it was Guitar Hero…this Christmas it’s apparently watching DVDs of the television show Veronica Mars. I’m pretty sure I would not have watched this regularly on tv (I think the only thing I have ever watched regularly when it aired on tv was Sex and the City), but with the wonders of full seasons on DVD…I can watch all this silliness at once. Murder mystery, high school/college drama with a touch of snarky dialogue and sarcasm. YAY DVDs!
Once upon a time (say between 1995 and 1999), I was a pretty loyal KROX-FM aka 101X listener. I mean it was alternative rock when alternative rock was cool…you know like being country…when country wasn’t…wait no. ANYWAY, being the narcissist that I am – I also got a kick out of it being like MY radio station with the whole ROX thing cuz that’s my name.
I don’t know when I lost my loyalty, really…maybe when I moved back to College Station with all the lame radio stations there. Then, of course I lived in Washington, DC…Houston…I didn’t make it back around to Austin again til 2001…only to move to Dallas in 2002…Back in Austin (again…thankfully) by 2004…but I didn’t get back into the 101X groove.
So, I had to get a new car battery a few weeks ago. That meant resetting the clock and the radio presets. I have 6 main preset buttons. Since, one of my presets had previously been I think it was 104.9 (a hip hop station that in the middle of the day became a Spanish pop station) I had a new slot available…and I put 101X there thinking it would be on probationary status…Well, I’ve decided to let it stay. It’s a bit like reminiscing.
The other day this song came on, and it’s been stuck in my head ever since.
I guess my boyfriend and I got tired of our traditional HD programming last night…and we starting slumming in the standard def channels…THE HORROR!
So this led to some channel surfing…in areas we wouldn’t normally land… we saw a bit of I Love Money (the reunion show *gag*) and I was elated (no seriously…that’s not sarcastic) to see another season of The Pick Up Artist…my love for that show is a whole other blog though…then I stopped on
What are they thinking…I won’t even tell you the “point”…well b/c there isn’t one now that I think about it…and I have never seen so many people looking like Oompa Loompas in one show…the chief offender being Paris herself…and no big surprise if you read the bios of the cast – you find a lot of them work at tanning salons! *gasp* This show should be “Paris Hilton’s My New Mystic Tan Pusher”
