Some of you may have seen my tweet from last night about attending a MAC pro class on bridal makeup.
We went over some really interesting looks and thoughts. I’m THINKING about doing a series of bridal makeup related posts actually (the class gave me a lot of ideas.)
One thing I really took note of – is to keep in mind how makeup will look in photos. Of course, we all know that really natural/light makeup can totally disappear in photos. I often advise my brides of this, and keep a digital camera handy so that they can get an idea of what our makeup application translates to in pictures. Something I hadn’t really given as much thought to, however, is black and white photography. Dark matte colors can become even more dramatic and dark in B&W photography. Nude or softer colors can totally wash out or disappear. As makeup artists, we should take this into consideration as well. With proper planning, looks can be balanced and beautiful in both color and B&W photos. It’s our job to pass this information on to our bridal clients. For example, if a bride is a big fan of dark and/or black eyeliner – she might change her mind seeing how that comes out in black and white. She might prefer a gunmetal color/black softened with some shimmer. The shimmer will reflect a bit of light and come across more subtle than stark black in the B&W photos. It will also achieve the desired definition in color photos.
Here are some pictures for thought:
