I got a question from a reader about whether or not she could use MAC Brush 217. She is of Asian descent, has limited visible lid space, and a crease that’s a challenge to define. She was worried that the 217 brush might be too big for her smaller eye shape.
I did not have ready access to her or another Asian model in order to make my own video tutorial. However, I pointed her in the direction of some makeup tip illustrated by Eve Pearl (5 time Emmy Award winning Celebrity Makeup Artist).
I especially like this quick video:
In this video, Eve demonstrates how to shape and define the crease for a natural, basic, and flattering look. Take note of the brushes she uses.
Also, check out this full makeup tutorial in the episode of Be-You-tified! This look is a bit more smokey/dramatic option.
In my opinion, anyone case use the 217 brush. You can use the flat side to sweep shadow or creamy products on parts of the lid or the whole lid. Even if you find that it’s a real challenge to work with the 217 (using the tip to define the crease), you can use this brush for perfect blending. For example, you can use a MAC 219 Pencil Brush to really lay down color and define the crease (or outer corner). Then, go back and blend with your 217 to soften the line. Eve uses a brush similar to the pencil brush in the first video I’ve referred to here.
Great questions!! Keep them coming!

I will gladly sit in as your Asian with no crease model! I am DYING for a good lesson on eye make-up application.

I was thinking about you – we just may have to do that in the future!
